History

1956 October Medical Corporation Kyouwakai, Hannan Hospital is founded with 144 beds and 55 members of staff.
1978   Social workers are stationed.
1981   Open-door policy of the hospital wards is implemented.
  The daycare center, the 2nd in Osaka Prefecture, is completed.
1985   Meets the facility criteria for psychiatric occupational therapy.
  Meets the facility criteria as a psychiatric daycare center.
1992   The Healthcare Consultation Office (now Medical & Welfare Consultation Unit) is established.
1995   Meets the facility criteria of Group Homes Aozora.
1997 April The Psychiatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU), Rehabilitation Unit, Ward E equipped with the functions of Kansai's first mental care unit are opened.
September The new nurses system is introduced: Nurse to patient ratio 3.5:1 (achieving Nursing Standards B), nursing aid to patient ratio 15:1.
1998 April The new nurses system is introduced: Nurse to patient ratio 3:1 (Nursing Standards B).
May Ward F containing Outpatient Consultation, offices, central cafeteria, Psychiatric Care Unit (2nd & 3rd floors) is opened.
1999 May The Rehabilitation Center (Ward G) which integrates daycare and occupational therapy is opened.
2000 February Receives approval as the home nursing support center, Hannan Hospital.
March Receives approval for the Psychiatric Intensive Care Unit (Ward E1)
December Receives approval to expand the daycare unit to care for 70 patients.
2001 February Greening of the hospital grounds and a large scale renovation of the former Wards B, C and D are promoted.
December The Group Home Komorebi opens.
2002 October Home Visit Nurses Station Fureai opens.
2003 April Community Life Support Center Yui opens.
May The 2nd Daycare Center opens.
2004 June The present Director, Dr. Kenji Kuroda takes his position.
October Protection rooms set up in Ward E1.
2005 January The hospital’s daycare facilities are recorded in the Book of Psychiatric Facilities for Social Rehabilitation (Japan Psychiatric Hospitals Association)
March 7 specialist outpatient departments (Sleep Disorders, Mental Care, Outpatient Women, Addictions, Memory Loss, Home Visits, Oral-pharynx Psychosomatic Disease) begin operation.
April Begins accepting clinical interns (Kinki University Hospital).
  Jikei Medical Corporation Medical Foundation (operates three hospitals) from South Gyeongsang Province, South Korea visits the hospital.
May The Helpers Station open.
June The library "Medical Information Center (Chie Fukuro) opens.
August Begins accepting clinical interns (Osaka Rosai Hospital).
  Obtains approval as a medical facility certified by the Japanese Society of Sleep Research.
September Community Healthcare Enterprise opens.
Security and duty outsourcing.
November The Sleep Lab for the treatment of sleeping disorders is expanded.
  Establishes function evaluation Ver4.0
2006 April External prescriptions are issued.
  The kiosk Tulip is operated by SHiDAX i Corporation, and is refurbished.
August The digital medical records system and pharmaceutical system are put in to operation.
  Honorary director Miyazaki passes away.
October The 50th anniversary of the opening of Hannan Hospital.
  Care home opens.
Community Life Support Center becomes a project sponsored by Sakai City.
November C1 Psychiatric Intensive Care Unit is approved (The second approval).
  The Outpatient Consultation Department is expanded (to create 7 consultation rooms)
2007 May Super Emergency Care Unit (Dept. of Psychiatric Emergency Admission) opens.
2008 October Five presentations are made at the Psychiatric Conference of the Japan Association of Psychiatric Hosptials.
  Super Emergency Unit (Ward B1) is approved.
2009 January Staff on-site non smoking declaration.
May Operationalized power rehabilitation
November Accepts EPA Filipino nurse trainees
  Commences no-smoking on the premises
2010 April Establishes function evaluation Ver6.0
July Opens Dementia Care Center
  Ridgepole-raising ceremony for the new ward
October Operationalizes Ward H Commences MRI testing, operationalizes the Follow-up Check-in machine

October Psychiatry Acute Treatment Unit is approved (51 beds from Ward E2 are made available for mental care)

April Opening ceremony for the Hannan Hospital Teaching Room in Osaka Prefecture Habikino Special Needs School
June Starts the out-patient treatment for workplace rehabilitation
October 19 titles represented at the 1st Japan Association of Psychiatric Hospitals Academic Conference held at Osaka International Convention Center. The ICT team receives an incentive award.
December Assessment for rehabilitation III for illnesses such as vascular brain disease is initiated
2013 January Starts issuing detailed statements for medical treatments
February e-CODO goes into full operation (starts retrieving data)
March Board chairman Koichi Gotoda receives a commendation for contribution to mental health welfare
  Holds the open lecture "Sleep Day" for spring

2019 February Electronic Medical Records Analysis System MENTAT goes into operation.
  Hosts the first Former Medical Staff (doctors) study class.

March The Apricot Sakai proposal’s second phase goes into operation on a commission basis by the hospital’s corporate body.
April Begins using a credit payment system
  Reorganizes the Rehabilitation Department
June Sakai City commissions the Developmental Disorder Specialist Care Network Project.
September Hosts a lecture by Mr. Roice N. Kreuger.
October The Disaster Psychiatric Assistance Team participates in training.
November The bicycle park and parking lot are relocated.
December Construction of the temporary admin building commences.
2020 February Emergency routes are built.
March DPAT (Disaster Psychiatric Assistance Team) receives a request for assistance.
April C2 Women’s Subacute Ward moves to E2. The Ward begins operating as the Acute Ward for both men and women.
May B2 Subacute Ward moves to C2.
The temporary admin building is completed.
