Greetings by the hospital director Director greetings

In 2007, the Hannan Hospital opened its Department of Psychiatry Emergency Inpatient Unit (Super Emergency).

The Super Emergency Unit is where quality treatment and nurse care are provided through speedy and concentrated manpower. Such a unit is very rare in Japan, and it is our wish to respond to the needs of our community by actively engaging in emergency care, which is one of the greatest themes of psychiatric care.

Another facility that is rare in Japan provided by Hannan Hospital is the Mental Care Unit for short-term stays, which was opened in 1997. It came from our idea to provide a peaceful and therapeutic place for people suffering from inability to go to work due to stress and insomnia. It is the first of its kind in Kansai.

There is another unique endeavor that we have undertaken. In 1989, we have set up our Sleep Lab, and as a medical institution certified by the Japanese Society of Sleep Research, our doctors certified by the Society have been providing specialist care for sleep disorders such as Sleep Apnea Disorder and Restless Leg Syndrome.

My intention is not to point out that we are actively investing in our facilities, but to let it known how seriously Hannan Hospital is working on providing "mental health" and a "tranquil environment for treatment".

For instance in the Rehabilitation Wards, some areas have sunken floors where chairs are placed to facilitate natural communication between patients, their families and staff. Since people with mental disorders have some difficulty with interpersonal relationship, they are unable to talk readily in a large common room. Those areas in the Rehabilitation Wards have been designed to enable the gradual expansion of the wave of communication.

The staff such as doctors, nurses, pharmacists, psychiatric social workers and occupational therapists fully exhibit their expertise to support patients, work together and share information, and practice psychiatric care under solid team-healthcare.

A hospital is a place for treatment as well as a place of living and a place for healing.

The flora and fauna that can be enjoyed from all the windows, the wards filled with natural light, and the hospital garden where seasonal changes can be relished, are all expressions of our strong wish to provide the most appropriate environment for providing healthcare from the standpoint of the patients.

Mental disorders have become diverse in range due to the complex social conditions of today. It is out intention to implement the latest psychiatric care in order to look after the diversifying needs of people suffering from mental illnesses as much as we can.

I look forward to your visit to Hannan Hospital as the resting place for modern society.
